Four Strategic Drug Corridors in Mexico Under Washington’s Scrutiny

53

According to security analysis and geopolitical evaluations highlighted by experts like Eduardo Guerrero in El Financiero, United States authorities have shifted their strategic focus from merely targeting individual cartel leaders to monitoring critical economic and logistical corridors in Mexico. Cartels have evolved into complex networks capable of controlling local economies, ports, and critical North American trade infrastructure.

The four primary corridors currently under the microscope of Washington and U.S. security agencies include:

Jalisco-Michoacán-Colima Corridor: A vital Pacific-bound route centering around key maritime ports like Lázaro Cárdenas, which handles both precursor chemical imports for synthetic drugs and massive commercial freight coming from Asia. It also impacts critical agro-alimentary supply chains, such as avocado and berry exports, as well as railway networks connecting directly to the United States.

Sinaloa-Sonora-Baja California Corridor: Historically recognized as a primary bastion for major cartels and factional disputes, this northwest corridor serves as a cornerstone for transnational drug trafficking, cross-border smuggling networks, and financial operations linked to synthetic drug production.

Tamaulipas-Nuevo León-Coahuila Corridor: An essential northeastern trading route connecting major manufacturing hubs and international commercial bridges, heavily linked to cross-border contraband, fuel theft (huachicol), arms trafficking, and organized financial networks.

Chihuahua-Ciudad Juárez-El Paso Corridor: A historic and heavily monitored borderland passage connecting major illicit supply channels directly into the southwestern United States, representing a priority zone for security agencies managing cross-border organized crime.
