Kia to manufacture a new model in Mexico: its cheapest electric car will be made in Nuevo León.

For Kia, Mexico continues to be a highly strategic market—not only for domestic sales but also as a growth platform for other regions—thanks to the company’s manufacturing plant in Pesquería, Nuevo León. The facility recently received the Gold Plant Quality Award 2026, presented by J.D. Power, recognizing it as the number one plant in initial quality in Mexico and across the Americas. The achievement further strengthens Kia’s long-term commitment to the country.

Kia has now announced the start of production of the EV3 at its Nuevo León plant, making it the first fully electric Kia vehicle manufactured in Mexico.

This decision reinforces Mexico’s role as a strategic manufacturing hub within Kia’s global production network and reflects the company’s confidence in the competitiveness, skilled workforce, and manufacturing excellence of its Mexican operations. In addition to the EV3, the Pesquería plant continues producing the K3 and K4 models.

The Kia EV3

The EV3 is a fully electric subcompact SUV designed to meet the needs of modern families by combining innovation, technology, safety, and practicality.

It offers up to 605 kilometers (WLTP) of driving range on a single charge and features a modern design inspired by Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy. It is also the first Kia model to include Kia Connect, the brand’s new connected services platform.

The 2027 Kia EV3 is currently available through a pre-sale running until August 13, 2026, exclusively on Mercado Libre, while customer deliveries are scheduled to begin on August 6.

$649 Million Investment

The addition of the EV3 to the production line is part of a 649 million U.S. dollar investment aimed at expanding the industrial and technological capabilities of Kia’s Mexican operations.

Beyond adapting the production line for electric vehicle manufacturing, the investment will also support improvements in industrial processes focused on renewable energy, responsible water management, and the development of public EV charging infrastructure.
