The Tulum City Council strengthened its security strategy through a zero-tolerance policy toward police corruption on July 30, resulting in the dismissal of eight officers for misconduct while encouraging the public to report irregularities.
Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo led a working meeting with Municipal Public Security Secretary Edgar Aguilar and Traffic Director Jessica Orozco to evaluate and strengthen public safety efforts throughout the municipality.
During the meeting, the municipal government reiterated that illegal acts within the security forces will not be tolerated. The mayor also confirmed that, so far this year, eight police officers have been removed from their positions after committing administrative and operational irregularities.
“We want residents to know that we will not tolerate acts of corruption. The secretary has clear instructions that any officer involved in irregularities will be removed from their position immediately,” said Castañón Trejo.
How to Report Police Misconduct in Tulum
Local authorities have established official channels for residents and tourists to report misconduct committed by public officials:
- Direct hotline: The Municipal Government has made the phone number 984 198 68 65 available to receive complaints and reports.
- Legal process: Citizen complaints will be forwarded to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) for the corresponding investigations to be opened.
- Institutional commitment: Security agencies have been instructed to act in full accordance with the law in order to restore public trust.
