Recent data from the National Survey of Income and Expenditure of Households (ENIGH) published by INEGI places Zacatecas among the entities with the lowest economic earnings in Mexico. The figures reveal that the average monthly income for a household in the state sits at approximately 20,097 pesos, which is 22.5% below the national average of 25,955 pesos. This positions Zacatecas as the seventh lowest state nationwide in terms of household earnings, underscoring significant financial strain for local families.

Financial analysts and state economic officials attribute this persistent economic lag to multiple factors, including heavy inflationary pressures on basic food baskets and agricultural products, as well as structural challenges in generating well-paying formal employment. With a considerable portion of the local workforce earning modest daily wages and informal labor remaining widespread, citizens face mounting difficulties in covering fundamental living costs.

Experts emphasize that overcoming this deep-rooted economic rezago requires targeted regional strategies. Strengthening local investments, supporting formal job creation, and mitigating the rising costs of essential goods are presented as critical steps to improve household stability and purchasing power for families across Zacatecas.
