As construction progresses on the Port of Veracruz Access Interchange—located on the MEX-140 Xalapa–Veracruz federal highway—the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) announces that, starting this Thursday, two-way traffic will be temporarily enabled on Section B of the viaduct (the Veracruz–Xalapa direction).
This measure will maintain user mobility via the interchange’s elevated structure while construction work on the frontage roads continues and preparations are made for the project’s next phase.
This temporary opening marks the first stage of the project and will help improve traffic flow on this major roadway, used daily by thousands of people traveling between the Veracruz–Boca del Río metropolitan area, the state’s central region, and the port complex.
This adjustment also allows work crews to shift their focus to the area beneath the interchange, where the project’s second stage will take place. This stage includes the construction of frontage roads, entry ramps, U-turn lanes, geometric modifications, and other complementary works required to fully complete the infrastructure.
The SICT notes that although traffic will move along the interchange’s elevated structure, construction work will continue at the lower levels; therefore, safety barriers, warning signs, and operational personnel will remain in place within the work zones.
Consequently, road users are urged to obey traffic signs, follow the instructions of operational personnel, and drive cautiously to ensure the safety of both travelers and the workers involved in the project.
The SICT maintains ongoing coordination with relevant authorities to facilitate traffic operations during this stage and advance toward the completion of this strategic project. The finished infrastructure will strengthen connectivity, reduce travel times, and improve access to the Port of Veracruz—one of the country’s key logistics and commercial hubs.
