Young artists from the Arte Ranchero Pandillero program have presented the exhibition “200 Years of San Miguel de Allende: Tradition, Neighborhood, and Street,” a collection featuring more than 35 paintings and photographs that reflect their vision of the city through the lens of urban culture.
The exhibition was inaugurated during an event featuring a performance by Decadencia Insurgentes, a band made up of musicians from the same program, which is part of the Center for Adolescents of San Miguel de Allende (CASA). The exhibition will remain on display through August 28 at Casa El Nigromante.
“It’s truly something special that they opened this space for us to share a little of what we do. Our work is an expression of urban art, representing the streets and the essence we experience every day and try to capture on canvas,” said David Cuevas, who is exhibiting two works in the show.
Showcasing the essence of San Miguel through urban art
A total of 14 artists are participating in the exhibition. All of the works are available for purchase, with proceeds intended to support the artists and help them continue developing their creative work.
The collection portrays the streets, traditions, and iconic landmarks of San Miguel de Allende as the city celebrates the 200th anniversary of its designation as a city.
Historic streets, well-known buildings, local traditions, and cultural celebrations are the main subjects of the artworks created by these urban artists, who have refined their techniques through the long-running Ranchero Pandillero program operated by CASA A.C.
“It’s great to spend time with other young people who enjoy the same kind of art I do. Ranchero Pandillero is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other artists and meet more people involved in the art community,” said one of the exhibitors.
The exhibition is free and open to the public at Univerciudad Casa El Nigromante, located at Umarán No. 38, two blocks from the Main Garden, and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
