Located on Río Tigris in the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood, this wine bar is inspired by Spanish-style bars, like the ones found in Bilbao or Granada: small, relaxed places where people eat, enjoy a glass of wine or a small beer, and simply go about their evening without too much ceremony.
Its concept is clear: casual and comforting cuisine, a good wine selection, and a community atmosphere.
The place stands out with its reddish sign, illuminated bar, shelves filled with bottles, simple tables, and the feeling of a contemporary tavern where everything seems arranged for sharing food, drinking, and continuing a conversation.
It is an ideal spot after work, to escape traffic or rain, or even to turn around a difficult day.
Granate and Its Snacks Made for Long Conversations
The menu resembles the offerings of Spanish bars but includes a subtle Mexican touch, featuring dishes that appeal to a wide range of tastes.
Its snacks encourage long conversations: patatas bravas, prepared olives, calamari rings, Serrano ham croquettes, tapas, and sandwiches.
The menu also includes options for different preferences, such as salads, octopus, confit pork, rib eye, seafood paella, cheese boards, and desserts.
There are also beverages to extend the afternoon, including beer, vermouth, sherry, and cocktails such as tinto de verano, vermouth spritz, and limoncello spritz.
The first dish we tried was the olives with jocoque and homemade pita bread, a fresh, salty, and creamy appetizer that was perfect for starting the meal.
Then came the soft crab croquettes, generously sized, crispy on the outside, and with a smooth, creamy center.
The “smelly potatoes” with Serrano ham were a salty indulgence that delivered a satisfying burst of flavor.
To accompany them, an Estrella Galicia beer worked perfectly as a traditional small beer: cold, light, and ideal for casual snacking.
The Taittinger Champagne changed the mood without disrupting the relaxed atmosphere: its fine bubbles elevated the snacks and showed that a bar can become elegant without losing its comfort and authenticity.
Wine, Comfort, and Good Vibes
Granate features a wide selection of wines from different regions and at accessible prices.
The bar also plans and hosts wine tastings, conversations with winemakers, label presentations, and pop-up events with other culinary projects.
The visit ended with the cheesecake with guava compote, a creamy and tempting dessert with a fruity touch that balanced the salty flavors from the rest of the meal.
Granate works because it understands something simple: people do not always go out just to have dinner; sometimes they go out to catch up with friends or simply improve their mood with a good drink in hand.
And here, among wine, beer, snacks, and bar conversations, that promise is fulfilled.
