Basilia García Medina, a migrant from Hidalgo originally from Pisaflores, Hidalgo, who lives in North Carolina, United States, reported that her husband, Gustavo Corona Cerón, was deported several weeks ago by agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a situation that has left her family separated.
The interviewee explained that her husband was detained by immigration agents because he did not have a Social Security number or a driver’s license, since his undocumented status prevented him from accessing these rights enjoyed by U.S. citizens.
García Medina stated that North Carolina is already issuing driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants, despite the immigration policies implemented by President Donald Trump.
Deported to Mexico Without Cash
After being detained, her husband was deported to Mexico without money or documents because, at the time of his arrest, he had just paid his work-related expenses. As a result, he was returned to Mexico without any cash.

The migrant explained that upon arriving in Mexico, Gustavo Corona faced discrimination because he was not recognized as a citizen due to his lack of official documents proving his nationality.
Because of this situation, Gustavo had to request his Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) from his relatives, who sent it to him digitally. This allowed him to access public transportation to travel home.
Basilia García Medina asked President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to request that the United States government provide dignified treatment for undocumented Mexican immigrants, and also called for deported migrants not to face discrimination from government officials or public transportation operators.
