Anáhuac Vehicular Bridge Begins Construction in La Paz to Improve Mobility

The Anáhuac vehicular bridge, one of the infrastructure projects most eagerly awaited to improve mobility in the El Salado area, began construction this week in the municipality of La Paz, municipal president Martha Guerrero reported.

The structure will cross the Compañía Canal and is part of a package of 18 vehicular bridges announced a month ago by state authorities for the State of Mexico. Of that total, nine will begin construction this year, all located in municipalities in the eastern part of the state.

The mayor explained that the bridge will require an investment of 70 million pesos, an amount included in the more than 900 million pesos allocated to the first nine projects. The project is expected to directly benefit residents of the Ancón and El Salado neighborhoods, the town of La Magdalena, and Valle de los Reyes.

A Demand Years in the Making

The construction of the new bridge responds to a long-standing demand from residents and motorists, who have pointed out for years that the current El Salado bridge is insufficient to handle the area’s traffic flow.

The problem becomes worse during the rainy season, when disruptions to the roadway cause traffic jams that can last for several hours.

“It is a request that motorists have always had on the table. The area is very difficult, and the more people and cars pass through, the worse it becomes,” said Valentín, a local resident.

Work Has Already Begun

The La Paz City Council reported that the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), which is responsible for the project, began preliminary work involving cleaning and clearing the area where the structure will be built.

The work is being carried out along the boundaries of the Ancón and El Salado neighborhoods, where a section of the roadway remains closed. Authorities therefore recommended that motorists use alternative routes.

Part of the Plan for Eastern State of Mexico

The Anáhuac Bridge joins projects that have already begun in municipalities such as Valle de Chalco, Ixtapaluca, Chimalhuacán, and Nezahualcóyotl, where technical studies and preliminary work are underway for the construction of new road connections.

In Valle de Chalco, work is progressing on the Las Torres-Eje 10 and Alfredo del Mazo bridges, which will improve connections with Ixtapaluca and the Tláhuac borough in Mexico City.

Meanwhile, the Los Olivos Bridge will connect Calle 5, in Chimalhuacán, with Calle 18, in Nezahualcóyotl, also crossing the Compañía Canal.

Municipal authorities reported that, in parallel, they are reviewing the complementary works needed to improve access to the new bridge and ensure smoother and safer traffic, in coordination with the SICT, as well as the municipal departments of Public Works and Urban Development.
