A massive arribada of olive ridley sea turtles began this weekend at Ixtapilla Beach, prompting volunteers from the Punta Ixtal turtle camp to invite people from all over Mexico to witness this extraordinary natural spectacle, which occurs in only a few places around the world.
It was reported that on July 26, a small arribada took place and was considered the first of the season. During this second arribada, however, the stranding is massive, allowing visitors to witness the great natural spectacle locally known as “the moving stones.”
It was reported that during the night and early morning of this Saturday, August 8, thousands of female turtles arrived at the small bay of Ixtapilla. The turtles dig their nests to lay their eggs in the golden sands of this magical beach, which offers some of the best conditions in Mexico for incubating the eggs from which the baby turtles will hatch.
According to the experience of the Indigenous Nahua volunteers who protect the sea turtles, this massive arribada will reach its peak during the afternoon of this Saturday and on Sunday morning. Therefore, they reiterated their invitation not to miss this extraordinary natural spectacle: a massive phenomenon in which olive ridley turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on Ixtapilla Beach.
