Joining President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s goal of planting 1.5 billion plants and seeds between 2026 and 2030, Governor Javier May Rodríguez led the National Reforestation Day in Tabasco, which was launched simultaneously across the country by the federal executive leader from the Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park in Puebla.
After Sheinbaum Pardo signed the decree establishing the national campaign and administered an oath to environmental defenders, May Rodríguez stated that the state would join this effort with a goal of reforesting 30,000 hectares and planting 30 million timber and fruit trees through the Sembrando Vida program.
The state governor said that during the campaign, 843 locations would be reforested with native species such as guayacán, macuilí, and flamboyant trees, “for the good of our country and our planet.”
During the ceremony, held in the protected natural area of Laguna del Camarón, which was attended by the presidents of the Judicial and Legislative branches, Carlos Efraín Reséndez Bocanegra and Jorge Orlando Bracamonte Hernández, respectively, the governor reported that an annual state reforestation campaign is also held on October 4, with a goal of planting 2.4 million timber and fruit trees.
In the presence of José Antonio Peña Merino, head of the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications, who attended as a representative of the President of Mexico, May Rodríguez thanked the federal and state agencies that remain committed to protecting the natural environment.
During the campaign, the president of the Judicial Branch planted macuilí trees alongside Jesús Adame Cabrera, commander of the 30th Military Zone, and Salvador Heredia Domínguez, head of the SEMARNAT office in Tabasco.
The Judicial Branch reaffirms its commitment to the environment, which is more than a struggle to save trees or the jungle; it is a struggle to save humanity, as Brazilian trade unionist and activist Chico Mendes believed.
