A property valued at 30 million pesos, which was seized by the current administration in 2024 from Milton N., a former head of the surveillance department at the Autonomous University of Nayarit (UAN), will be converted by the state government into a facility providing services to migrant children in the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood of Tepic.
The two-story property will have medical and psychological offices, as well as a multipurpose room and separate dormitories for women and men. It will also include recreational and green areas, among other spaces. The facility will have a security booth and controlled access.
The investment for remodeling the property will be nearly nine million pesos and the work is expected to take 90 days.
“It is a space adapted to provide care for foreign minors who may arrive in our state.” However, since there are currently no migrant children in the area, the facility is being used to shelter children facing various “criminal or addiction-related issues,” said Beatriz Estrada Martínez, president of the state DIF system.
She added that it is a “dignified place to shelter all of our adolescents.”
Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero acknowledged that the building had been seized and emphasized the need to establish legal mechanisms so that “institutions do not take another course,” he explained.
He stressed that the property “should not be used for other purposes or objectives.”
The property was valued in 2024 by the Nayarit State Attorney General’s Office at 30 million pesos and was seized from Milton N., one of the university’s main alleged fraudsters.
In June 2022, prosecutors arrested Milton N., a former head of security personnel at the UAN, accusing him of aggravated assault, threats, attempted homicide, disobedience and resistance by individuals, as well as illicit enrichment amounting to 300 million pesos.
The alleged offenses were committed while Juan José López was rector of the university, from 2010 to 2016. López remains a fugitive from justice and is accused of several crimes, including the embezzlement of funds from the university in Nayarit.
