Querétaro is being fortified against blockades in Michoacán

The governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri González, said that the state’s borders with neighboring states are “shielded” by members of the State Police (POES) and municipal police forces, with support from the National Guard. The measures follow several road blockades in Michoacán after the arrest of alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

After the Secretariat of National Defense reported 24 blockades involving burned vehicles in the neighboring state early Wednesday morning, the governor said the Secretariat of Citizen Security would closely monitor the situation in Michoacán over the coming days.

“We are constantly reviewing what is happening in the states bordering us. Immediately, the POES, municipal police, and prosecutors’ offices were sent out to review and safeguard all our borders,” he said.

Kuri González stated that his government’s security strategy is permanently implemented in municipalities bordering Guanajuato, the State of Mexico, Michoacán, Hidalgo, and San Luis Potosí, with the objective of preventing criminal groups from entering the state.

In the same context, he welcomed the fact that Guanajuato reported a 76% decrease in its daily average of intentional homicides, according to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System. He said this reduction would have a positive impact on security in Querétaro.

He added that he recently spoke with his Guanajuato counterpart, Libia Dennise García, whom he praised for the progress made in security and for her coordination with federal authorities in combating violence in her state.

“I am convinced that the changes made by the governor and the good relationship she has, along with her effective work with the federal government, have helped maintain a much better atmosphere of peace in Guanajuato. Here, we continue working hard with the National Guard and with an increasingly better-trained police force equipped with all the necessary tools, while working in synergy with the Prosecutor’s Office, the Judicial Branch, and municipal police,” he said.
