Nuevo León measures itself through facts rather than words, and as evidence of this, it has positioned itself as the safest state in Mexico, demonstrated through a security strategy that has been implemented in recent years.
As a result, authorities have reported historic decreases in crime rates, top national rankings, and an increase in citizens’ perception of security.
The Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda, announced that following the success of the FIFA World Cup, where Nuevo León managed to become the best and safest host location, the New Metropolitan Division will be created. It will consist of 500 officers in order to maintain positive security indicators and strengthen surveillance.
In addition, Fuerza Civil has established itself as one of the best-rated police forces in the country, with significant operational capacity. With more than 7,000 officers and divisions such as Highways, Armored Division, Air Division, Territorial Control, Intelligence, Technologies, and Tactical Medical Services, it has been able to maintain a permanent presence throughout the state.
As part of security measures, more than 80 Black Mambas and Rhinos, 11 helicopters, and two Black Hawks have also been acquired. More than 16 barracks and police outposts have been established, strengthening security at all entrances and exits of Nuevo León.
“We are already above the norm and above the international standard, with 7,434 members of the new Fuerza Civil. We are carrying out a task that belongs to the Federal Government, which is the highways. We are more than happy to take it on. More than 200 Blazers were acquired, and today Fuerza Civil patrols all the state and interstate highways we have in the state. We have the Armored Division, with more than 80 Black Mambas and Rhinos, which are these armored vehicles that now protect those who protect us.
“Today Nuevo León has a division with 10 helicopters, including two Black Hawks, which are distributed throughout the territory so that we have total presence on the ground and in the air. We have more than 1,200 pickup trucks distributed among police bases, in more than 16 barracks, and we continuously patrol the metropolitan area, as well as the northern, southern, and eastern areas,” the state governor highlighted.
This strategy, led by Governor Samuel García and carried out in coordination with the head of the New Fuerza Civil, Gerardo Escamilla, and the Secretary General of Government, Miguel Ángel Flores Serna, has also been reflected in citizens’ confidence and perception of security, as well as in top rankings for the state police force.
Among these distinctions are being the best-paid police force, the police force with the highest number of promotions, the police force that combats organized crime the most, the police force that trains the most cadets, the police force with the highest number of air operations, and the police force that has seized the largest number of weapons.
“When we entered government, we were failing, with 70% of the population opposed and only 30% approving of security, mobility, and the water issue, since we obviously had no water. Today, in Nuevo León, we have turned all of these areas around. All of these areas are now the opposite, with 70–80% of the population supporting what we have done. In this case, regarding public security, this is an ENSU confidence survey, and here we can demonstrate that 70% of Nuevo León feels safe.
“First place in performance, with a score of 79; first place in confidence, with a score of 78. Today, with all these figures, Nuevo León is the safest state and the one that has improved public security the most in the country,” said the Governor of Nuevo León.
