Epic Traverse Hidalgo is an adventure expedition that combines mountain biking, canyon running, trail, and paddleboarding across some of the most spectacular landscapes in the state. The event is scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2026, and will connect Mineral del Chico with Zimapán through a 230-kilometer point-to-point route.
The event seeks to combine sport, nature and tourism, taking participants through mountain forests, canyons and open-water areas while showcasing part of Hidalgo’s natural and tourist wealth.
The official route consists of four segments covering approximately 230 kilometers:
- 145 kilometers of mountain biking
- 30 kilometers of canyon running/trail
- 35 kilometers of mountain biking
- 20 kilometers of paddleboarding
The expedition involves more than 3,500 meters of elevation gain and includes 15 supervised rappels.
The route begins in the high-altitude pine forests of Mineral del Chico and continues through the state’s canyon systems before reaching the open waters of Zimapán.
A Selective Endurance Expedition
Epic Traverse Hidalgo is not designed as a recreational or mass-participation race. It is presented as a selective endurance expedition intended for athletes with experience in demanding outdoor disciplines.
The organizers emphasize technical terrain, physical preparation, field judgment, risk management and self-sufficiency.
The event will have a maximum of 100 athletes, with limited capacity intended to maintain operational coordination and safety throughout the route.
Participants will encounter technical mountain trails, rocky descents, high-altitude forests, canyon terrain and open-water sections during the expedition.
Two Event Formats
Epic Traverse Hidalgo will offer two formats, each designed for a different level of experience.
Epic One Day
This format is intended for elite and highly experienced endurance athletes.
Participants will complete the entire 230-kilometer route continuously in a single effort.
The format has a maximum capacity of 50 athletes.
Epic Two Day
This format is designed for advanced athletes and relay teams.
The same 230-kilometer traverse will be completed over two days, with overnight support.
This format also has a maximum capacity of 50 athletes.
Sport, Nature and Tourism
Beyond the athletic challenge, the event is intended to showcase Hidalgo’s natural landscapes and tourism potential.
The route crosses areas characterized by mountains, forests, canyons and bodies of water, allowing participants and visitors to experience different environments within the state.
The event is also part of a broader effort to promote Hidalgo through experiences that connect adventure sports, nature, local communities and tourism.
The state has been promoting destinations and activities that allow visitors to explore its landscapes beyond traditional tourism attractions.
A Route Through Hidalgo
The official course runs from Mineral del Chico to Zimapán, crossing Hidalgo from the mountains toward the water.
The route has been designed as a point-to-point expedition rather than a conventional circuit. The organizers state that the detailed route is provided to confirmed athletes according to the event’s communication schedule.
The combination of disciplines means participants must adapt to substantially different environments throughout the journey, moving from mountain biking to canyon terrain and finally to paddleboarding.
A Limited Number of Participants
The organizers have established a total capacity of 100 athletes, divided between the two event formats.
The limited number of places is part of the event’s design and is intended to allow greater control over logistics, safety, tracking and the technical requirements associated with the route.
Epic Traverse Hidalgo is scheduled for October 24–25, 2026, in Hidalgo, Mexico, presenting the state as a destination where high-level adventure sports can be combined with its mountains, canyons, forests and waterways.
