Chihuahua Recorded 84 Intentional Homicides in August, the Lowest Figure for This Month Since 2010
The state recorded 84 cases during the month, while during the first eight months of 2026, the crime decreased by more than 24 percent compared with the same period in 2025.
Chihuahua closed August with 84 intentional homicides, the lowest figure for this month since 2010 and the lowest monthly record since March 2016, according to the results reviewed during the State Peacebuilding Meeting chaired by Governor Maru Campos.
Intentional Homicides Decline in Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez
During the meeting, authorities reported that in the first eight months of 2026, intentional homicides decreased by more than 24 percent compared with the same period in 2025, while in Ciudad Juárez the reduction reached 41 percent, equivalent to 271 fewer cases.
The governor and representatives of security agencies at different levels reviewed the operations implemented during the previous week to maintain peace and security throughout the state.
Operations and Judicial Results
Francisco Sáenz, acting head of the State Attorney General’s Office, reported that between August 24 and 30, authorities executed 164 arrest warrants, recorded 51 arrests in the act, resolved 190 case files and brought 105 investigation files before the courts.
During the same period, 29 convictions were obtained, while security agencies maintained operations to deter crime in municipalities across the northern, northwestern, central, western and southern regions of the state.
The actions involved the State Public Security Secretariat, National Guard, Secretariat of National Defense, Municipal Public Security and the Government Affairs Directorate.
Coordination Among Security Agencies
The State Peacebuilding Meeting was attended by the Secretary General of Government, Santiago De la Peña; the head of the Central Zone Investigation and Litigation Unit, Andrea Guzmán; representatives of the 5th Military Zone; and the delegate for Welfare Programs, Mayra Chávez.
Participating virtually were Brigadier General of the General Staff David López, commander of the 42nd Military Zone, and Fernando Ávila, technical secretary and representative of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.
