According to the Oaxaca state attorney general, Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla, the Alliance of Unions and Associations of the State of Oaxaca (ASAEO) is linked to the commission of various crimes, including the murder of union leaders, as well as extortion and street-level drug dealing. As a result, joint actions were carried out with the federal government the previous week to arrest nine members of its state leadership.
This organization, he stated, began operations through transportation, using taxis, motorcycle taxis, dump trucks, and other vehicles, expanding its presence to at least 80 municipalities in the state, mainly in the Central Valleys region. Through these activities, they began distributing drugs and later took control of “drug stores.”
ASAEO, he added, continued to evolve and began carrying out acts of dispossession through the use of force. They expanded their activities by engaging in extortion and protection payments, mainly in their area of influence in the Etla Valley, in the Viguera area of the state capital, and at the Central de Abasto, in addition to carrying out “contract killing” activities.
He indicated that investigations conducted have made it possible to establish their involvement in at least two high-profile murders, and in November 2024, an assassination attempt was carried out against Marcos Sánchez, leader of the International Confederation of Workers (CIT) in the state.
In January 2025, Caleb Rodríguez, who was part of the leadership of the Confederation of Workers of Mexico, was murdered along with two other people. The organization maintained an alliance with ASAEO. In April 2026, Iván Luis Villaseca was murdered along with two other people at the offices of the Confederación Joven de México, which he headed.
The motive behind these attacks, which claimed the lives of at least six people, was to eliminate rival organizations and take control of them, forcing their members to join the alliance, he stated.
Rodríguez Alamilla revealed that, according to the investigations, it has been determined that ASAEO has maintained an alliance with the Costa Cartel and that it is operated by BSR, alias El Bogar. This situation was confirmed in recent days with the arrest of Juan MGG, alias El Micky, who served as a link between the two criminal organizations.
He added that although there had already been public complaints against ASAEO for the commission of various crimes, there had never been formal complaints, which made it difficult for the FGEO to take action. However, investigative activities were gradually developed, ultimately leading to the police operation carried out the previous week.
He added that the investigation file remains open, and inquiries are therefore continuing against anyone who has a connection with this organization, regardless of whether or not they are a public official.
