Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier and municipal president José Chedraui Budib placed the 2026 Solemn Proclamation of National Holiday Celebrations at the entrance of the Municipal Palace. The action was part of the reading ceremony in which the activities scheduled throughout September were announced to commemorate the 216th Anniversary of Mexico’s Independence.
During the reading of the proclamation, the mayor emphasized that Independence was not merely a military episode or a succession of names and dates. He stated that it represented a collective decision by women and men who understood that the time had come to transform a reality that no longer responded to the aspirations of the people.
He explained that within the city government, it was clear that Puebla needed coordination, dialogue, and joint efforts. He also pointed out that the relationship among the three levels of government should always remain at the center of government activity, with the objective of delivering results for the people of Puebla.
“Under the leadership of the President of Mexico, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum, and in coordination with the state governor, Alejandro Armenta, we will continue joining efforts so that Puebla can move forward, so that it can have better opportunities, and so that our city can live up to what the people of Puebla deserve. Because governing means serving. Governing means listening. Governing means being close to those who need it,” he stated.
After the reading ceremony of the Solemn Proclamation, led in the city’s main square by the state governor, the mayor conducted the first honor guard before the National Flag at the Municipal Palace.
The activities included commemorative ceremonies for the 164th Anniversary of the Death of General Ignacio Zaragoza; the 240th Anniversary of the Birth of Nicolás Bravo; the 179th Anniversary of the heroic stand of the Niños Héroes of Chapultepec; the 216th Anniversary of the 1810 Cry of Independence; the 205th Anniversary of the Completion of Mexico’s Independence; and the 261st Anniversary of the Birth of General José María Morelos y Pavón, among others.
Likewise, municipal president José Chedraui accompanied representatives of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches in placing the Solemn Proclamation at the Palace of Justice, the State Congress, and Casa Aguayo. The celebration program included cultural, civic, and recreational activities at various locations throughout the capital.
