The natural richness of the Mexican Eden, as well as the majestic landscapes of the Sierra subregion, will take center stage during the L’Étape Tabasco by Tour de France, which will take place this Sunday, September 6.
During a press conference led by Secretary of Tourism Katia Ornelas Gil; the event’s sports director, Omar García Morín; Tabasco’s General Coordinator of Civil Protection, Armando Pulido; as well as state, municipal, and sports authorities, details of the competition were announced.
Sports director Omar García Morín reported that national and international clubs will attend the event. He explained that the course will operate under a time limit and a minimum speed of 21 km/h.
“We have approximately 17 national teams and the participation of some international athletes who, although they are not coming as a team as such, include participants from Colombia, Spain, and France, which are the main rivals to beat. However, we also have riders from teams such as Canel’s Turbo, with whom we have an association, as well as other cyclists who have even represented the National Team. The first cyclist starts at 6:30. It will be one complete group; we will leave at exactly 6:30, and it is scheduled to conclude at 11:40. We chose this schedule to prevent sports-related accidents from occurring,” Omar García stated.
There will be three routes, all with start and finish at the Villahermosa Malecón. The sprint route will be 37.9 kilometers long and will reach Playas del Rosario; the short route will cover 53.9 kilometers and will reach the town of Francisco J. Santamaría, while the long route will be 132.6 kilometers long and will pass through the municipalities of Teapa, Tacotalpa, and Jalapa.
One of the most important aspects will be the operational deployment to safeguard the safety of participants and spectators. For this reason, Tabasco’s General Coordinator of Civil Protection, Armando Pulido, announced the units and personnel that will be assigned to respond to any eventuality during the event.
“We have more than nine ambulances planned, which will be coordinated at different strategic points. We will have more than 40 paramedics and rescue personnel working alongside the L’Étape team, which will also have emergency response specialists, motorcyclists, and ambulances. We will coordinate with them and with the more than 500 staff members who will be present at this major event,” said Armando Pulido.
So far, more than 800 cyclists have registered to participate in this sporting and recreational competition, which is expected to generate an economic impact estimated at more than 36 million pesos, according to Tourism Secretary Katia Ornelas Gil.
