With the beginning of September, local authorities presented the Xalapa cultural agenda, which includes a program designed for all ages and tastes, featuring cinema, theater, music, and workshops at different locations throughout the city.
Best of all, the vast majority of the activities are free or have free admission, so here are some of the events taking place during the first days of the month.
Among the most notable events this week is the “Atenas Queer” LGBTIQ+ short film screening, presented by Omar Mejía Robles. It is scheduled for Friday, September 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Centro Recreativo Xalapeño, and will include a discussion. The event is recommended for people over 15 years old.
Cultural Activities in Xalapa for September 2026
That same day, Parque Juárez will host the 2026 CECyTEV State Festival of Art and Culture, as well as the Bows and Accessories Entrepreneurial Expo and Workshop, which will remain open through Sunday, September 6.
Music will also play a leading role. This Thursday, September 3, the J. J. Herrera Theater will host Kronos Ensemble with “Música poética”, as part of the La Festa Antiqua XII Early Music Festival.
Meanwhile, at the Lavaderos in the Xallitic Magical Neighborhood, visitors can enjoy “Baila esta cumbia” with Gema and Ricardo Juárez starting at 5:00 p.m.
The weekend continues with events such as GuitaRed, a guitar master class and recital at the Museo de la Música Veracruzana, and “Danzas para consort de flautas” at the J. J. Herrera Theater.
On Saturday, September 5, a tribute to Elena de la Luz Ramírez Aguirre, “Mamá Elena,” will take place at the Museo de la Música Veracruzana, featuring a plaque unveiling and a jarocha and fandango costume runway.
That same day, the book “Bucareli 158” by José Manuel Cuéllar Moreno will be presented at the Centro Recreativo Xalapeño, along with concerts by the Pauta Nueva Orchestra and the Children’s and Youth Symphony Orchestra, the latter accompanied by Mariachi Fiesta Xalapeña.
The program continues throughout the month with family activities at Parque Juárez, such as “Un Danzón pa’l Corazón” and folkloric ballet performances, as well as cultural discussion spaces such as “Armonías en madera” at the Museo de la Música Veracruzana, which will be repeated on Mondays, September 7, 14, 21, and 28.
There will also be a water awareness event, Japanese calligraphy, concerts by the Xalapa Municipal Orchestra, and even the AeroPress Veracruz 2026 regional competition for coffee enthusiasts.
