The ninth edition of the race will take place next October 4. Registration is already open, and the registration period will close on September 13. This edition of the competition will feature Juan Luis Barrios, a Mexican long-distance runner and distance athlete, as a special guest.
With surprises such as the presence of Dionicio Cerón, a retired Mexican marathon runner, as well as good prizes, hundreds of athletes are expected to participate, not only from the city and the region, but also from other states across the country.
Registration costs 500 pesos and can be completed either at the Comude Orizaba office or through the orizaba.gob.mx website.
What Categories Will the Race Have?
The categories are 3K and 5K in the overall category, with the winners receiving prizes in kind. The 10K will offer cash prizes. A total of 150,000 pesos will be distributed among the winners in the following categories: overall, open, master, and veteran.
Runners who register for the competition will receive benefits such as a sports clinic with Juan Luis Barrios, a competitor T-shirt, race number, timing chip for recording times and results, as well as a finisher’s medal.
The official results of this competition will be announced on the Pacer Time website. The race will also be broadcast on a giant screen, and athletes will have medical support during the race and at the finish line.
Who Is Juan Luis Barrios?
He is a 43-year-old athlete who began competing in youth Olympics. He specialized in 1,500-meter, 5,000-meter, and 10,000-meter races, and participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2012 London Olympic Games.
He is the winner of multiple medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games, as well as the Pan American Games.
He runs his own training team, remains active in international road races, and shares his experience with new generations of athletes through sports clinics.
Dionicio Cerón
He is considered the best Mexican marathon runner in history. He won the London Marathon three consecutive years, in 1994, 1995, and 1996.
He won the silver medal at the 1995 World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. In 1990, he set a world record in the Philadelphia Half Marathon with a time of one hour and 46 minutes.
