With the Estela de Luz serving as both the starting point and finish line, the seventh edition of the Red Cross race was held this Sunday.
Starting at six in the morning, thousands of runners gathered on Paseo de la Reforma to compete in the 5- and 10-kilometer races, as well as a three-kilometer walk.
“We are already a well-established race in the city. The goal is to promote physical activity and health. We are very satisfied with the turnout, and we hope to continue for many more years,” said Red Cross Director Eduardo de Agüero.
The men’s 10-kilometer race was won by Uriel García, with a time of 31:03 minutes, followed by Carlos Velasco (32:12) and Pablo de Jesús Canul (37:40).
In the women’s category, the winner was Sonia Laguna, with a time of 37:32 minutes, followed by Erika Cuevas (38:56) and Alejandra González (39:39).
In the 5-kilometer race, the winners were Irving Arredondo and Diana López.
Red Cross Director Eduardo de Agüero said that approximately 5,000 runners participated in Mexico City, while the national figure exceeded 50,000.
“We also want to promote support for the Red Cross, an institution that is present during the country’s key moments,” he added.
Entire families, dozens of pets, and even people with disabilities took part in the sporting celebration.
The race took place simultaneously in all 32 states of the Republic.
The money raised through registration fees will be used to cover the expenses of the race and to provide assistance during the hurricane season.
