The film will be presented for the first time in the country
Next November 19 will be a date worth remembering for this municipality of Veracruz as it will be the national premiere of the film “Luna Negra, el llanto de un río”.
The story based on real events focuses on a town in Jalcomulco that fought against the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
But before letting you know where this multi-award-winning film will be premiered at the Moscow International Film Festival, we will tell you some information about this picturesque place in Veracruz.
Jalcomulco comes from the Nahuatl word “Xalkomolko”: ‘xalli’ which means sand; ‘komol’ which means pot, hole or depression and ko, which means ‘in’, translating as “In the corner of the sand” is located in the central area of the state of Veracruz, bordering to the north with Emiliano Zapata, to the east with Apazapan, to the south and southwest with Tlaltetela and to the northwest with Coatepec.
In 2014, its inhabitants managed to stop the construction of a dam; At the 45th Moscow International Film Festival – the second oldest after the Venice Film Festival – “Luna Negra” took home the Best Director award (Tonatiuh García Jiménez), the Audience Award and the Russia Filmmakers Club Award.
The event that has been held since 1935 had never awarded Best Director recognition to a Mexican, much less to a Veracruz native, who by the way is the brother of the state governor, Cuitláhuac García Jiménez.
The feature film that highlights the fight for natural resources has never been seen in Mexico, it is believed that it will hit theaters in the first months of 2024, however, director Tonatiuh García revealed that it will be next Sunday, November 19 that the public can see it for free in the same place where it was filmed, that is, the municipality of Jalcomulco.
According to the Veracruzano Institute of Culture (IVEC), it will be projected in the central plaza of Jalcomulco starting at 6:00 p.m.
