The Pacific tropical cyclone period officially begins on May 15 and ends on November 30.

Mazatlán, Sin.- A few hours before the 2024 hurricane season begins in the Mexican Pacific, this period is expected to have 10 percent more rainfall.
The Municipal Coordinator of Civil Protection, Eloy Ruiz Gastélum, stated that for the season that begins this May 15 and ends on November 30, there is a forecast of 19 weather phenomena that may occur, develop or evolve in the Mexican Pacific. .

“The existing forecast is that, in general, a 10 percent increase in precipitable rain could be contemplated, taking into consideration the previous season, so that implies that there will probably be months of great abundance of rain,” said.
Instability zoneHe mentioned that there is already an instability zone under observation and in a period of 48 to 72 hours, the first of 28 storms expected for the Mexican Pacific would be forming, due to the Tropical Depression 1-E that lies in front of the states of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Michoacán.
“We already have an area of instability in the southern Pacific that could possibly have a slightly more specific and clear formation in the next few hours. If so, this would be the first natural phenomenon of this rainy and hurricane season,” said.
He highlighted that the Civil Protection personnel are fully prepared, in addition, the Mazatlán city council has developed various activities after the last rainy season, mainly in the cleaning of all the canals found within the urban area.
“A lot of emphasis must be placed on the people who live near the channels and rivers or streams that we have here within the city, to help us join efforts, avoiding pollution, avoiding throwing garbage or any waste that is generated at home,” he concluded.
