From 2018 to date, they have achieved more than 230 national and international awards that certify their quality

Since 2018, Guanajuato wines have managed to add more than 230 awards in the main international forums and publications, which shows that they have the quality to compete against anyone, but also confirms the claim that the state has the potential to be a land of good wines.

Ramón Alfaro Gómez, head of the Secretariat for Sustainable Economic Development, highlighted that the state has implemented various marketing strategies to take advantage of the growing presence of the wine industry, which not only seek to increase wine sales, but also strengthen the internal economy, in addition to promoting wine tourism and promoting knowledge about the processes of grape cultivation and wine production.

Currently, Guanajuato is in fourth place nationwide in wine production and in eighth place in industrial grape production.

With 135 labels in the state, Guanajuato has won more than 150 awards in renowned world competitions and about 80 national ones, which makes the state a leader in the Mexican wine industry.

Guanajuato has 35 wineries dedicated to wine production, spread over 350 hectares of vineyards located in the municipalities of Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato capital, León, San Miguel de Allende, San Felipe and Salvatierra, where more than 300 thousand cases of wine are produced per year.

During the current state administration, the boost to the wine sector has been substantial, said Ramón Alfaro Gómez, as policies have been implemented that promote visits to vineyards, participation in wine tastings and learning about viticulture. This has not only increased the demand for local wine, but has also attracted national and international tourists, generating an important economic spillover for the region.

“The goal is to strengthen our internal economy, promote wine tourism and continue to promote knowledge and appreciation for our wines,” he said.

The successes accumulated since 2018 reflect Guanajuato’s commitment to wine excellence and the strategic vision of the state government to integrate wine into its economic and tourism policy.
