To date, there is an estimated number of 750 dead cattle, however, it has been possible to maintain a stable figure due to the actions undertaken by the same livestock organizations

There are already 40 communities without water in the municipality of Durango. This last week, another four were added that must be attended to through pipes with water for human consumption, and to date, the seven and a half million liters of water that have been distributed since the beginning of the program “For your health, get trucha con el agua” have been exceeded, as announced by the head of the Municipal Directorate of Rural Development, Manuel Herrera Ruiz.
Given this scenario, the animals will be the ones to register the greatest impact since with the first rains there begins to be a minimum growth of green grass that does not represent any nutrient for the animals, especially for the thinnest and weakest, which could represent a stage of greater mortality.
The municipal official reported that to date there is an estimated number of 750 heads of cattle dead, however, it has been possible to maintain it stable due to the actions undertaken by the same livestock organizations, who have trained the producers with techniques to have a better nutrition in the animals.

This is in addition to the delivery of 600 tons of ground corn to 1,500 cattle ranchers delivered last week, which mitigate the food problem generated by the drought in the municipality of Durango, together with the water supply program for the inhabitants of the different communities with shortage problems, they are projected as a strategy to control the damage caused.
Hence, they trust that the first rains will begin to fall in the last half of June, and in July they will regularize, so currently a topographical planning is being carried out to begin with the construction of one hundred watering holes; seven masonry dams, some under construction and others under reconstruction; in addition to the provision of photovoltaic systems for the wells of some communities.
“At this time, of the nearly 500 watering holes, only 10 percent have water, so with the hundred we build, we will have 600 spaces for water collection and harvesting in the livestock sector in 2024,” he commented.
That is why we are already seeking to call on specialists to carry out a social control and the pending works for water collection and harvesting during this year, which will have a long-term impact.
