To celebrate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Mexico, the Italian Navy’s training ship, Amérigo Vespucci, will arrive in Puerto Vallarta and “will host an event on board in which Mexican authorities will participate.”

On June 18, in four days, the Italian Navy’s training ship, Amérigo Vespucci, known as “the most beautiful in the world,” will arrive in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Mexico.
“The arrival of the Amérigo Vespucci – a floating museum that will be open to the public and schools and will host an event on board in which Mexican authorities will participate – is a symbol of the excellent relations of friendship between the two countries over 150 years,” highlighted the Italian ambassador to Mexico, Alessandro Modiano.
Modiano also expressed his gratitude to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE, Chancellery) Alicia Bárcena:
“IT IS A GREAT HONOR FOR US THAT SHE HAS ACCEPTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS GREAT EVENT, IN WHICH WE RENEW THE TIES OF DEEP FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN BOTH NATIONS.”
The ship was Named after the Florentine navigator Amerigo Vespucci, after whom the American continent is named, it is a training ship of the Italian Navy, built in 1930, on which all the cadets of the Italian Navy have been trained for almost a century.

Modiano also stressed that Italy and Mexico achieved the “considerable achievement” of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations with bilateral ties stronger than ever.

A KEY PARTNER DESTINED TO PLAY A ROLE OF GROWING IMPORTANCE IN THE COMPLEX GEOPOLITICAL SCENARIO THAT IS BEING DEVELOPED”, THE DIPLOMAT HIGHLIGHTED.
On the economic front, Mexico is an increasingly important ally for Italy, with trade and investments in full expansion and has become the first market for Italian exports to Latin America, with a new record value of 8.6 billion dollars in 2023, 10% higher than in 2022.
To date, Italy is Mexico’s second supplier among the countries of the European Union (EU) and has more than 2,300 Italian-owned companies in the country, of which around 150 have productive investments in various sectors such as automotive, agri-food, infrastructure, tourism, pharmaceutical and, more recently, circular economy and energy efficiency.
In 2024, export growth is expected to reach 8 to 10% to Mexico and other Latin American countries, such as Brazil, where Italy exports products worth around 4.3 billion dollars annually, or Colombia, with more than 1 billion dollars annually.
