México y Rusia abordan relación bilateral y guerra en Ucrania

The foreign ministers of Russia and Mexico, Sergey Lavrov and Alicia Bárcena, held a telephone conversation in which they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the situation in Ukraine, according to Russian diplomacy.

“Current issues of Russian-Mexican relations were discussed, as well as international and regional issues, including the situation around Ukraine,” said Foreign Affairs.

Lavrov took the opportunity to congratulate his Mexican counterpart for “the successful presidential elections held on June 2.”

Although Mexico has condemned the war in Ukraine along with other countries in the United Nations, it has defended dialogue as a way to resolve the conflict and has refused to send weapons to this country despite requests from kyiv.

In line with this line, Mexico has not confirmed so far the sending of representatives to the peace conference on Ukraine in Switzerland, to which Russia was not invited, but in which representatives from Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Argentina will participate.
