The avocado has a new security strategy, an agreement between the government of Michoacán and the producers.

The state government and the members of the Association of Producers and Packers Exporters of Avocado of Mexico (APEAM) outlined the route for the safety of the inspectors and the delivery of packed avocados for export.

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla reported that in a meeting after the visit of the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, the diplomat requested that the state Auxiliary Police be the one to carry out the accompaniment of the inspectors in functions.

He said that the Government of Michoacán is ready for elements of that corporation to be assigned immediately, equipped with tools and units to fully comply with their work in the municipalities.

He stressed that the Auxiliary Police has 1,700 trained and accredited officers to carry out security functions, which he considered sufficient to protect the activities of the USDA-Aphis workers.

APEAM members expressed interest in coordinating with the state the route of the Auxiliary Police operation in order to guarantee the export of avocado packaging from Michoacán.
