Mexico remains the country with the highest number of journalists killed, with a record of 46 in the last six years. Of these, three are from Guanajuato, according to records from the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF). RSF describes the reality in Mexico as worrying, mainly in the states of Guerrero, Veracruz and Tamaulipas, where 42 percent of the media professionals killed since 1995 (66 in total) worked.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) expressed the same opinion, which is an independent, non-profit organization that promotes press freedom in the world and points out that Mexico remains the country in the world with the most missing journalists.

It explains that there are 31 disappearances out of a total of 84. All of them occurred before 2023, with the exception of the Mexican reporter Juan Carlos Hinojosa Viveros, who disappeared on July 6. Mexico is the most dangerous country in the Western Hemisphere for journalists, according to extensive documentation compiled by CPJ since 1992.
