Before the end of the year, it is expected that the two latest discoveries of new dinosaur species recorded at the Paleontology Museum of the Normal Superior of Coahuila will be on display. For this purpose, an analysis of the requirements that must be covered, such as drawers and museography, is already underway, reported its director Pedro Flores Vázquez.
“We have a project for a remodeling, to improve the infrastructure of the museum, which we already have the entire approach, all the requirements to begin working on it,” he explained that the support is directly from the school and from some other institutions or associations with which there is a relationship and agreements.
The intention is to install new display cases and shelves for the works that need to be exhibited, but he explained that there is no specific allocation for the operation of the Paleontology Museum, so the resources are taken from the budget that is assigned to the Normal Superior of the State of Coahuila on a semiannual basis.
According to its director, the budget is assigned based on enrollment and in the last semester it was just under a million pesos, in addition to all the extra work, such as the museum being included in national calls such as the Project for the Support of Normal Schools, to which resources are requested through projects and it is worth mentioning that in the last year the resources were not obtained.
Dinosaur found in the pandemic has not been able to be exhibited
Dr. Belinda Espinoza Chávez, head of the Paleontology Museum of the Benemérita Escuela Normal de Coahuila, explained that the museography is being reorganized to be able to include a dinosaur that was found during the pandemic and that has not been able to be exhibited, in addition to the Coahuilasaurus that was recently declared a new species located in our entity; she specified that the amount to be spent has not yet been determined, since they are just working on the requisitions to make the corresponding quotes.
Regarding the relationship with the National Institute of Anthropology and History, he indicated that every time an exploration is carried out and new work is done, it is necessary to report it so that it is registered, since as is known, it is a resource that is part of the national heritage, but the INAH does not provide any financial support.
