Transporters, customs brokers, and representatives of maquiladora companies at this border are maintaining a joint position regarding the difficulties that have arisen at the Piedras Negras customs facilities involving the entry and movement of empty transportation units.
According to the sectors involved, the restrictions and requirements currently being applied have generated delays, additional costs, and complications for foreign trade operations.
Given this situation, representatives of the sector called on customs authorities to establish a dialogue table and review the procedures currently in effect, with the purpose of finding alternatives that allow compliance with regulations without unnecessarily affecting the flow of trade.
They warned that if the problem persists and a solution is not reached, the possibility of closing the international bridges as a pressure measure is being considered. However, they emphasized that this would be a last resort and that they are precisely seeking to avoid reaching that scenario.
The sectors involved stated that a potential suspension of activities would not affect transporters alone, but could trigger impacts on maquiladora companies, production, and the transportation of goods, with possible repercussions on employment and the economy of Piedras Negras.
For this reason, they reiterated the need to prioritize dialogue and coordination with the authorities, considering that foreign trade is a fundamental activity for the economy of this border region. They clarified that their demand is not aimed at eliminating customs controls or violating the law, but rather at establishing mechanisms that can streamline operations and prevent an administrative issue from ultimately affecting other sectors of the community.
