Man dies from poisoning after drinking beer in Coahuila; suspicions point to his neighbor

After more than two weeks of hospitalization, the young José Manuel Teniente García died from poisoning that he apparently suffered after drinking a beer at the home of one of his neighbors in Matamoros, Coahuila.

Versions shared by the local press indicate that the events occurred on August 31 in a building in the José Ayup Tedy neighborhood. Presumably, José Manuel was hanging out with his neighbor, named Javier, while they were drinking alcoholic beverages. At one point during the meeting, in which it is unknown if there were more people, the beer ran out, so José Manuel went out to the store to buy more.

Upon returning, he continued drinking from a bottle that he had opened before going to the store. Shortly after consuming the contents of said container he began to feel ill, so he asked his relatives for help to transfer him to the General Hospital of Matamoros, located only two kilometers away from the aforementioned neighborhood.

The young man entered the hospital on his own two feet and, for 17 days, received medical attention to treat the poisoning he had suffered. Despite the efforts of the health personnel, José Manuel died on September 16.

Information released by N+ states that José Manuel’s illness and eventual death was due to insecticide poisoning, which caused multiple organ failure. Versions pending official confirmation suggest that the agricultural poison would have caused liver, kidney and hematological failure.

Given this situation, the first suspicions point to the neighbor with whom José Manuel lived on August 31, since it is presumed that during his visit to the store he could have poured the deadly substance into his drink. However, as of this publication there is no official version that supports this narrative.

Once José Manuel’s death was confirmed, elements of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office were transferred to the hospital. Likewise, the deceased’s sister shared her testimony with the authorities, so that it would be possible to start the corresponding investigations.

The victim’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for the autopsy. In the meantime, it is expected that the authorities will carry out the relevant investigations to determine responsibilities for this event.

“You will always live in my heart, brother,” “You were a loyal, happy, friendly person, that is how I will always remember you. A big hug to heaven” and “Rest in peace, brother” were some of the messages that relatives and people close to José Manuel shared on social networks to mourn his death.
