Transporters, merchants and motorcyclists blocked the Via Morelos for more than two hours to protest against extortion and intimidation by the municipal police of Ecatepec and to demand that the abuses of cranes and excessive charges in the state cease.

The protesters, among others from the organization Gestión y Organización Popular Emiliano Zapata (GOPEZ), gathered on Monday morning on the Via Morelos, at the entrance to the Via Libre to the Felipe Ángeles Airport (AIFA) and a few meters from Puente de Fierro.

There, the protesters denounced that elements of the municipal police of Ecatepec set up phantom operations on primary roads where they extort them.

They pointed out that if they do not agree to pay the amounts they demand, they send them to the judge or they issue fines for anything.

“Every day they set up their operations, they ask for all the documents and for anything they want to send you, and if you do not pay them what they ask, they threaten you. They always refer you to the Los Arcos judge, every person they stop is taken there, because there, why do you pay your fine and they don’t give you a receipt and if you ask for it they threaten you, they tell you that they already have your address and that you shouldn’t report it,” they said.

They called on the Ministry of Mobility (Semov) to intervene in the abuses by the tow trucks in the towing of vehicles.

They denounced that the municipal police of Ecatepec are colluding with the tow trucks to impose fines and tow them to the impound lots where they charge them astronomical figures.

As a result of the blockade, the highway was heavily loaded with vehicles and the service of the Mexibús Line 2 was suspended.

After more than two hours, the protesters left to be attended to by the authorities and announced that if they do not have a favorable response, they will block it again.
