The image at the Catrinas Gala of the Miss Universe pageant that took place in Mexico, was like a tribute to Michoacán, since through the accessories and clothes made by Michoacán designers, the Michoacán culture was highlighted worldwide, said designer Anayeli García, who orchestrated this work.
In this participation to show the world through this gala, all the cultural beauty in accessories and clothing, there were mainly Anayeli García herself, from the Ana Guía México brand; José Gutiérrez, from the Lum Joyería MX brand; Felipe Sánchez, from Accesorios Powokani; and Ahidee Olivo, from Warecita de mi tierra.
In a press conference, Anayeli, designer of the Ana Guía México brand, spoke about the work that the designers did in the Miss Universe pageant that takes place in the country, and especially in the last Catrinas Gala that this pageant organized to welcome all the participants from around the world. “We, as Mexican designers, the delegation from Michoacán, dressed 12 of the 130 contestants who came here to Mexico,” she said, and recalled that the Miss Universe pageant is still taking place, as the grand finale is this coming November 16.
It is historic that it was held here in Mexico, she said, “and for us… I am going to share it with you as a Michoacan designer: it is an honor to have dressed Mexico, in Mexico, in our home, and to be the hosts of everything that was the gala, very spectacular, at the Colegio de las Vizcaínas in Mexico City, and the objective of this event was to show the 130 participants the beauty and culture of Mexico.” This is a path, she said, that they have traveled to achieve a dream, because not only do you have to dream it, you also have to work for it to happen, she indicated, and recalled that in February of this year, some designers were invited to New York Fashion Week.
There, she said, was the first interaction she had with Sheynnis Palacios, the current Miss Universe, “it was when this interest for the world of beauty contestants was awakened. Previously, with my brand we did not work in that medium, it was a success to have dressed Sheynnis, we went down a catwalk and we ended up being in four and we dressed Sheynnis Palacios on two occasions,” she said. So it was that they decided to enter the Miss Universe pageant to be able to participate in the traditional dress contest. They were in the city of Cancun representing a dress of the Tehuana woman, which was designed and merged with another Oaxacan designer named Alonso Máximo.
And that is how the organizers of Miss Universe make the invitation, she said, and since they already know their work, that helped, in addition to knowing the work they have done around the catrinas, so they told them that they would have to be at the Gala of the Catrinas. She always made it clear that she worked with a team of accessories designers, so everyone was invited, “I can say that they are the best consultants in the state, I know what we are going to do to win, we arrived at Miss Universe with the whole proposal, not only in terms of design, but it was all a magic that encompassed the participants,” she recalled, indicating that the dresses they presented along with the accessories were what most represented Mexico and what spoke of Mexico, it was, she asserted, the essence of Michoacan.
During the press conference, Ahidee said that it was a surprise when they found out that Sheynnis Palacios brought Michoacan work, “the first thing you think about is the number of Mexican designers who can do their work and we were the chosen ones, and from there it was a wonderful surprise because we knew that great things were coming for us.
We are a team that has been working for many years, and our work is an inclusion with artisans.” “We are all accessories designers and it was clear to me, and if I learned anything, it was that we are not competition, we are complements, and it was a sensation that we could work together. We were going to accessorize ten girls and we ended up doing it with 17, but since we already know it, we brought more product to be able to work on the fusion,” she said.
In this emotional line of admiration and surprise were the accessories designers Felipe Sánchez and José Gutiérrez, who highlighted the work they have done with Anayeli García and Ahidee Olivo, because they have created a great work team that on this occasion had the opportunity to show, in addition to their own creativity, all the beauty and strength that Michoacan culture has.
