During the month of January of this year, 398,849 visitors visited Chiapas, generating an economic impact of 880,298,565 pesos, with hotel occupancy at 38 percent and an average stay of 1.24 days. The main tourist destinations were Tuxtla Gutiérrez, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Tapachula, Palenque, Chiapa de Corzo, Tonalá, and Comitán de Domínguez.
The Ministry of Tourism reports that 335,981 visitors were nationals, 84 percent of whom came from Mexico City, Puebla, Veracruz, Tabasco, and Hidalgo, while 16 percent were foreigners. This represents 62,868 of them from Spain, France, the United States, Guatemala, and Italy.
The institution reports that 32,396 people visited the state’s archaeological sites. The top three most visited archaeological sites are Palenque, which received 26,013 visitors; Yaxchilán in the Lacandon Jungle, which received 1,583 visitors; and Chinkultik, near Comitán de Domínguez.
The cruise season began on February 15 with the arrival of the Coral Princess cruise ship, belonging to Princess Cruises. Airport traffic reached 187,139 passengers; At Ángel Albino Corzo Airport, 137,665 passengers arrived, at Tapachula Airport, 48,464, and at Palenque, 1,010.

Of the 398,849 visitors, Tuxtla Gutiérrez received 80,966, while San Cristóbal de las Casas received 64,966. In total, there is a difference of 1,193 more people in January this year compared to January 2024. The difference in economic impact between 2024 and 2025 is 3,792,574 pesos more this year than last year.
Hotel occupancy is generally low, at 38 percent in January of this year, compared to 39 percent in January 2024, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Tapachula reported 47 percent occupancy that month, Chiapa de Corzo 46 percent, Tuxtla Gutiérrez 43 percent, Tonalá 42 percent, Palenque 37 percent, San Cristóbal de Las Casas 28 percent, and Comitán de Domínguez 21 percent.
