Food fairs, music festivals, concerts, conventions, and film screenings are some of the free events Mexico City will have this weekend, Saturday, April 11th, and Sunday, April 12th, to kick off the Easter holidays.
In fact, Holy Week officially kicks off this Sunday, April 13th, with Palm Sunday. Furthermore, the holiday period begins on Monday, April 14th, making this weekend the perfect time to forget your worries, relax, and enjoy Mexico City’s cultural, culinary, and recreational offerings.
- Snow Fair
The National Snow Fair is one of Mexico City’s most traditional food events. This year, it kicks off on Saturday, April 12th, and can be enjoyed until Monday, April 21st. Snow artisans will gather at Plaza Quirino Mendoza in Santiago Tulyehualco, Xochimilco, to offer more than 100 delicious flavors. There are options from the most traditional, such as lemon, strawberry, vanilla, or chocolate, to exotic ice creams, such as rose petal, mole, avocado, or tequila. In addition, there will be concerts, folkloric dances, plays, and artistic performances.
- Querétaro at Los Pinos
If you’re more craving dishes like cracked corn gorditas, empulcado rabbit, arrieras tostadas, or shrimp and cactus cakes, Mexico City also has events for you. Visit the Querétaro at Los Pinos festival, where in addition to typical Querétaro cuisine, there will be handicrafts like the famous Lele doll, traditional dance performances, and music by the Maguey Manso Choir, the Women’s Ensemble of the Querétaro Children’s Orchestras, Las Flores de las Huastecas, and Las Perlitas. It will take place on April 12 and 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Jacarandas Plaza of the Los Pinos Cultural Complex.
- The Most Beautiful Flower of the Ejido
April 11, 12, and 13 are the final days of The Most Beautiful Flower of the Ejido, a traditional event that has been held since 1955. You’ll find all kinds of events at various venues in the Xochimilco district of Mexico City: concerts, food shows, and other cultural activities. Additionally, in the Historic Center of Xochimilco, there will be cumbia, salsa, and norteño music concerts to help you break out the forbidden dance moves:

- Carnival in Milpa Alta
Before Easter, it’s carnival season. Dance the chinelo step in the Milpa Alta district of Mexico City. This weekend, there will be carnival in the following communities:
San Francisco Tecoxpa – April 12 and 13
San Pablo Oztotepec – April 13
Santa Ana Tlacotenco – April 13
The carnivals will depart from the main plaza of each community between 12:00 and 3:00 PM. You can enjoy music, dancing, food, crafts, and the traditional and impressive costumes of the chinelos and queens.
- The Simpsons Fan Fest
Are you a Simpsons fan? Mexico City also has events for you. On Sunday, April 13, the capital will become a Springfield branch thanks to The Simpsons Fan Fest. It will take place at the Deportivo SME in Coapa, where Sebastián Llapur, the voice actor who voices Abraham Simpson and Krusty, will be present. There will also be a bazaar with themed products, trivia contests, a photo area, costume contests, a donut-eating contest, and even a giant screen showing episodes of the series.

- Demon Slayer Convention
Mexico City also has anime events this weekend. On Saturday, April 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., a Demon Slayer convention will be held. During the event, you can participate in a cosplay contest, take the karaoke stage, and meet a special guest: Iván Bastidas, the official Spanish voice of Tanjirō Kamado. There will also be drawing workshops so you can learn how to draw your favorite characters like Nezuko, Zenitsu, and the wild Inosuke.
- Free Movies at San Ildefonso
During the month of April, the Colegio de San Ildefonso will have free events for film lovers. German films will be shown on campus. This Sunday, April 13, there will be a screening of the film Secrets of a Soul. Bring your popcorn! The screening will be at noon.
- Free Activities in Chapultepec
Finally, this weekend Chapultepec Park, Mexico City’s main natural area, will also host the following free events:
