The Conduce sin Alcohol program will operate 24 hours a day in all 16 boroughs of Mexico City through September 20, as part of the special operation deployed by the Secretariat of Citizen Security for the national holiday celebrations. For the inspections, 300 personnel from the agency will be deployed, supported by 120 units and personnel responsible for security logistics, who will participate in setting up the checkpoints distributed throughout different parts of the capital during the celebrations marking the 216th anniversary of the beginning of Mexico’s Independence.
The strategy includes establishing security checkpoints on highways at the entrances and exits of Mexico City, where officers will carry out preventive measures to reduce risks associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages and driving vehicles during the celebration period.
Increased Police Presence
In addition to roadway surveillance, there will be a greater police presence in parks, shopping centers, borough esplanades, areas where bars and restaurants are concentrated, as well as locations hosting sporting events and musical concerts, due to the increase in activities expected during the celebrations.
According to the SSC, the personnel participating in the operation will also seek to raise awareness among people visiting these locations about the risks of getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol, which is why the operation will remain active uninterrupted throughout the ten-day period established.
The actions began on September 11 and will cover the days of greatest activity during the national holiday celebrations, including the period before and after the Cry of Independence ceremonies, as well as celebrations held in different areas of the capital.
Conduce sin Alcohol Marks 23 Years of Operation
The deployment is part of the agency’s preventive measures to reduce traffic accidents during these dates, particularly those associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages, which is why inspections will not be limited to nighttime hours or specific areas of the city.
Conduce sin Alcohol will also reach its 23rd anniversary next September 19, after more than two decades of operation in Mexico City as a strategy aimed at preventing people from driving vehicles after consuming alcohol. During the special operation, the Secretariat of Citizen Security will keep its assistance and emergency channels available, including the agency’s institutional accounts, those of the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control, and the Secretary’s Contact Unit, to receive reports related to the activities being carried out throughout the capital.
