Zacatecas advances to the final of the National Charrería Olympiad

With an outstanding performance on the Santa María Charro arena, the Zacatecas youth team secured their place in the grand final of the 2025 National Charrería Olympiad. After an outstanding performance that allowed them to accumulate 327 points and secure the bronze medal, with a chance of winning gold.

The star of the day was Amador Álvarez del Villar, who shone in the foot manganas, converting all three attempts for a total of 67 points, rounding out the collective effort of his teammates and consolidating Zacatecas’ qualification for the final.

The youth squad began their performance with a 24-point horse cala, executed by Leonardo Rodríguez Acevedo. Next up, Rogelio Gurrola Ramos scored important points with two well-executed piales, while Tadeo Bañuelos (36), Álvarez himself (35), and Gonzalo López Pérez (27) stood out in the suerte de colas, accumulating 98 points for this performance.

The bull riding was carried out by Miguel Márquez Martínez, who contributed five points. In the trio, Rogelio Gurrola and Amador Álvarez achieved points with a 27-point lasso and an 18-point pial in the ring, respectively. The mare riding was performed by Tiburcio Vidales Sánchez, who scored seven points.

In the manganas on horseback, Rogelio Gurrola made a successful attempt, earning 25 points, while Ramón Rodríguez closed out the Zacatecas bullfight with a successful paso de la muerte, adding another 25 points to the final score.

With this result, Zacatecas advances to the final alongside representatives from Jalisco and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME), with their sights set on winning their second gold medal in this edition of the competition.
