In a demonstration of institutional coordination and environmental commitment, the Secretary of Urban Development and Environment of Tamaulipas, Karina Lizeth Saldívar Lartigue, held a working meeting with the mayors of Tampico, Ciudad Madero, and Altamira to fine-tune preparations for the Carbon Forum Mexico 2025, one of the most important international events on climate change, the circular economy, and clean energy.
The forum, which will hold its fifth edition on September 10 and 11 at ExpoTampico, expects to host more than 3,500 attendees from 30 countries, in addition to 170 specialized speakers and a large exhibition area featuring private companies, state governments, and institutions leading sustainable initiatives.
During the meeting, the head of SEDUMA emphasized the importance of the event as a platform for the exchange of experiences, technologies, and strategies in the face of the global climate emergency, before the council members of Tampico, Mónica Villarreal Anaya; Erasmo González Robledo from Ciudad Madero; and Armando Martínez Manríquez from Altamira.
“Tamaulipas will be the center of a global dialogue on sustainability. This event places us on the international agenda and motivates us to continue building a resilient and responsible state for the planet,” said Saldívar Lartigue.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Environment, Karl Heinz Becker Hernández, emphasized that this event is part of a series of global meetings that will set the course for the climate agenda in 2025. “The forum not only represents an opportunity for learning, but also for concrete action. We are going to show the world that Tamaulipas is driving change,” he stated.
COORDINATION STRENGTHENED TO TRANSFORM URBAN MOBILITY
During the same meeting, one of the most important infrastructure projects for the metropolitan area was also discussed: the Comprehensive BRT Transportation System, a sustainable mobility alternative that promises to revolutionize public transportation in the municipalities of Tampico, Ciudad Madero, and Altamira.
Secretary Saldívar Lartigue, along with the Undersecretary of Urban Development, Fernando Daniel Páez Suárez, explained that this proposal is part of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya’s priority actions and is aligned with the National Mobility and Road Safety Strategy.
The BRT aims to offer agile, safe, and efficient public transportation, capable of moving up to 300,000 passengers daily, reducing the use of private vehicles and thus contributing to reducing the region’s carbon footprint. “It is a key step toward modernizing our cities and providing the population with a decent, accessible, and sustainable service,” Páez Suárez stated.
Also attending this meeting were María Silvia Montalvo Tello, Director of IMEPLAN for Southern Tamaulipas, and Humberto Calderón Zúñiga, Director of Climate Change Policies at SEDUMA.
With concrete actions like these, Tamaulipas is not only strengthening its urban and environmental development but is also consolidating its position as a leading state in fulfilling global commitments for a greener and more just future.
