The five members of the Fugitive Group, reported missing since May 25, were murdered by members of the Gulf Cartel’s Los Metros faction, Tamaulipas Attorney General Irving Barrios Mojica confirmed Thursday. The musicians had been kidnapped in Reynosa while on their way to a performance at a private event.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FUGITIVE GROUP MUSICIANS?

According to official information, the five members of the musical group were deprived of their liberty on Sunday, May 25, around 10:00 p.m., while traveling in a black GMC pickup truck to an event in the Riveras del Río neighborhood of Reynosa. As the prosecutor explained in a brief press conference, after their kidnapping, the young men were taken to a property in the Aquiles Serdán neighborhood, where they were murdered.

“The discovery site is still being processed by experts and the corresponding authorities,” Barrios Mojica stated. He also explained that the location of the site was made possible thanks to the analysis of C5 video surveillance cameras, tracking technologies, and telephone forensics.

ARRESTS AND ARSENAL SEIZED

As part of the investigation, authorities arrested nine alleged perpetrators, all identified as members of the Los Metros faction of the Gulf Cartel. Nine firearms and two vehicles were seized from the detainees. However, the motive for the crime has not yet been determined, and it is unknown exactly how the musicians were murdered.

“The discovery site is still being processed in order to gather evidence that will allow us to scientifically establish the motive and the circumstances of the murders,” the state prosecutor added.

WHO WERE THE MEMBERS OF THE FUGITIVE GROUP?

Grupo Fugitivo was a regional Mexican music band known in Reynosa for its style, which combined corridos with covers of popular songs. They performed at private parties, bars, and social events, bringing their music to different parts of the state of Tamaulipas.

The murdered musicians were:

Francisco Xavier Vázquez Osorio, 20

Nemesio Antonio Durán Rodríguez, 40

Livan Edyberto Solís de la Rosa, 27

Víctor Manuel Garza Cervantes, 21

José Francisco Morales Martínez, 23

The group had been hired to perform at an event in the Riveras neighborhood of Rancho Grande, but after leaving for the venue, their families lost contact with them.

VIOLENCE AGAINST POPULAR MUSICIANS IN MEXICO

This case once again raises alarms about the growing violence affecting regional musicians and artists in areas with a strong presence of organized crime. Reynosa, a city historically plagued by violence, is once again at the center of the security debate in the north of the country.

The execution of the members of the Fugitive Group represents not only a tragedy for their families and followers, but also a reflection of the risks faced by those working in entertainment in environments dominated by drug trafficking.

State authorities are continuing their investigation, and the musicians’ bodies will be released to their families in the coming hours. More details about the case are expected to be revealed in the coming days, along with an understanding of the motive behind this violent crime.
