Nearly 300 students from the Mactumatzá Rural Teachers’ College in Chiapas are blocking Paseo de la Reforma and Insurgentes Avenues to demand clarification of the murder of one of their classmates.
The student group set up a sit-in on the road to demand dialogue with President Claudia Sheinbaum because the Governor, Morena’s Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, has not agreed to hear them, they said.
“Given the negativity we have encountered in our state, we are going to hold a sit-in at this location so that people are aware of the situation we are going through. We also want the population to know that we are not here to harm them; we want the facts to be clarified and the truth to come to light. We want the State and the Governor’s Office to be held accountable,” declared one student.
It is expected that in the coming hours their classmates from rural schools across the country, including Ayotzinapa, will join their sit-in.
Due to the blockade, residents of the capital are evacuated from Metrobús buses and are walking toward Metro Hidalgo.
The students warned that this will not be the only protest they will carry out, as they will continue to protest peacefully throughout Mexico City until a solution is found.
Furthermore, they accused them of being informed that officers from the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security would arrive tonight to evict them.

On May 15, the same day the dissident teachers’ strike broke out, José, a 21-year-old fourth-year student from rural Chiapas, was allegedly killed by state police forces.
The students claim that he was taken away by the Pakal Immediate Reaction Forces (FRIP), created by Ramírez Aguilar to defend the population.
Since then, the students have demanded that the case not go unpunished and that the events be clarified, as they do not know why the shooting began.
They requested an audience with Ramírez, but received no response. After receiving no answers, they sent letters to President Claudia Sheinbaum, but they have also received no response.
At Plaza Reforma 222, access to the main road is blocked. The side roads are clear, but not only will the blockade not be lifted, but a protest camp with plastic tents has been set up on the road.
