At a press conference, Sinaloa’s Secretary of Tourism, Mireya Sosa Osuna, reported on the implementation of the “Blue Code” initiative, an inter-institutional strategy that seeks to guarantee the safety of cruise passengers visiting Mazatlán.

Sosa Osuna indicated that this initiative was presented last week to executives from Carnival Cruise Line, the world’s largest cruise line with frequent stops at the port. She stated that “Blue Code is an inter-institutional strategy for immediate response and high operational coordination, activated upon cruise ship arrivals. It seeks to guarantee the safety and quality service of passengers and crew, as it coordinates all security forces from all three levels of government in real time. In addition to the Municipal Police and Traffic Police, the State Security Secretariat, the National Guard, the Mexican Navy, SEDENA, Civil Protection, and the Ángeles Verdes social aid group participate.”

He stated that this measure will further boost cruise tourism and reported that from January to June, 58 cruise ships have been received in Mazatlán and one in Topolobampo, with approximately 214,378 cruise passengers, generating an economic impact of 335 million pesos.

“This year we have planned 132 cruises, and next year it’s highly likely we can reach 180. We’re still discussing that, but we have very good numbers, with a 20 percent increase by 2026,” he commented.
