Mazatlán’s 57 kilometers of storm drains have already been dredged, both in urban and rural areas, with the goal of preventing flooding during the current rainy season, reported Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez.
She even noted that in some neighborhoods, they have had to intervene up to three times, as the canals fill up with trash again shortly after being cleaned.
“We’ve had to go two or three times. The cleaning is done, and the canals fill up with trash again for different reasons, so we return to dredge. We ask the public to support us by reporting them to 072,” she called.
The dredging operation has been ongoing and even intensified during the rainy season, thanks to the coordination between Civil Protection and Municipal Public Works.
On Saturday, the Mayor launched the “Mazatlán I Want You Clean” program, a City Hall initiative that seeks to go beyond a simple cleanup campaign: its goal is to become a permanent public policy.
The start was forceful: six areas of the municipality were simultaneously intervened: Colonia Francisco Villa, the Malecón, Quirino Ordaz Avenue, Rotarian Park, Juan Pablo II Street, the International Highway, and Colonia Estero.
