The latest report from Speedtest and Ookla on the state of mobile connectivity in Mexico has revealed the latest data on the local market, including the ranking of operators based on download speeds and which cities have the best mobile connections. The data is very interesting.
Telcel once again leads the way and has the fastest mobile internet in the country. The operator achieved the highest average download speed at 82.69 Mbps, more than double that of Movistar and AT&T, which achieved average download speeds of 33.89 Mbps and 30.06 Mbps, respectively. Telcel’s upload speed was 14.75 Mbps.
The operator managed to position itself as the best mobile network in the country, obtaining a Connectivity Score of 69.31, surpassing Movistar’s score of 61.74, AT&T’s score of 61.50, and Altán Redes’ score of 49.26. This index evaluates the overall user experience, according to the report.
Which operator has the best 5G connection in Mexico? Once again, Telcel leads the way with an average download speed of 230.67 Mbps, far surpassing AT&T’s 71.38 Mbps average speed on 5G networks, and Movistar’s 57.19 Mbps. Regarding upload speed, Telcel achieved an average of 26.6 Mbps.
The city with the fastest internet in Mexico is Monterrey, according to the data recorded in the report. This city has an average download speed of 55.28 Mbps, followed by Zapopan and Guadalajara. Meanwhile, Baja California Sur had the best regional download speed, with an average of 72.46 Mbps, surpassing Sonora.
On the other hand, the city with the slowest average speed in the country is Ecatepec, followed by Puebla and Naucalpan.
Which are the best operators for gaming and video streaming?
Last but not least, Telcel also managed to lead the entertainment market. The company achieved a score of 77.35 for online gaming experience, surpassing AT&T’s 74.69 and Movistar’s 72.22. In terms of streaming and watching TV shows, movies, and videos, Telcel achieved 72.57 points, surpassing AT&T and Movistar with 68.82 and 67.89 points, respectively.
This isn’t the first time Telcel has established itself as the operator with the fastest internet in Mexico; however, we can see an increase in download speeds compared to the data recorded by Ookla last year.
This year, Telcel achieved an average download speed of 82.69 Mbps, while in 2024 the average speed was 57.00 Mbps. Both AT&T and Movistar also increased their download speeds from 24.85 Mbps and 24.82 Mbps to 30.06 Mbps and 33.89 Mbps, respectively. While Telcel remains the leader in the operator ranking, the data indicates that mobile internet connections are generally faster this year, which is good news for users.
