Puerto Peñasco witnessed one of the largest demonstrations in recent months this Tuesday. Starting at 9:00 a.m., a contingent of more than 300 people gathered at City Hall to protest alleged abuses committed by members of the National Guard in the city.
The mobilization began on the esplanade of City Hall, where attendees carried banners with messages of rejection and demands for justice. City Secretary Alejandro Verdugo Angulo received a group of representatives in his office to hear their views.
The citizens then began a march along Benito Juárez Boulevard to No Reelección Avenue, concluding in front of the National Guard base. At that point, the protest intensified, with eggs, water bottles, and IV drips thrown at the facility, while chants were shouted against the arbitrary arrests and alleged abuses attributed to the force.
The atmosphere became tense, with shouts and accusations exchanged between both sides. However, no physical confrontations or injuries were reported. The National Guard members limited themselves to guarding the base without responding directly to the attacks, which prevented the altercation from escalating.
Among the main demands were the release of a young man detained last Sunday, as well as the dismissal of Warrant Officer Alberto Parísio Mora, accused by protesters of leading harassment actions in the city. The day closed with broad citizen participation, including men, women, youth, and even children chanting slogans such as “Out with the National Guard!”, maintaining a firm protest tone, but without major acts of violence.
