Salvador Cruz Neri, head of Public Security for the state of Hidalgo, stated that Attorney General Francisco Fernández Hasbun should clarify the figures indicating July was the most violent month in ten years in the state, with 44 intentional homicides.
“It’s a matter for the Attorney General’s Office; he’s the one who uploads the homicide statistics to the National Public Security System (SESNSP). We should talk to him and he can clarify exactly what the statistics are,” he stated.
When asked how he will improve the security strategy, the commander addressed the current problem plaguing Tula: “We have addressed it, we have seized armed groups. The last thing we seized were five people, 12 weapons, including a Barrett and a “cop killer,” and a few days ago we seized some armed individuals, who were brought before the authorities.”
He has emphasized that members of the National Guard, the Mexican Army, and municipal police are conducting patrols throughout the region.
Violence is attributed to “El H”
He attributed the recent homicides in Tula to the power struggle following the imprisonment of “El H”; “Today he is facing justice, and that organization has disintegrated, and there is a struggle for control of that organization; of course, also primarily due to hydrocarbon theft and drug dealing.”
He reiterated: “We cannot deny it; it is an internal struggle. Let us remember that one of the past homicides was alias Selva, who was one of the leaders of an armed group belonging to “El H,” and the case we had a few days ago of the five detained with long weapons also belongs to another organization within “El H” and they are fighting for leadership.”
He added that the day before yesterday they carried out five searches in the region, seizing more than 15,000 liters of hydrocarbons and three people who are part of that criminal group.
