The Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat (SSPS) confirmed that alleged organized crime groups blocked access to the municipality of Escuinapa this Monday morning, using cargo trucks to impede traffic.

The closures occurred at two key points: the Mazatlán–Tepic highway and the Mexico 15 freeway, raising concerns among drivers and residents of the region.

No reports of clashes

So far, state authorities reported that no armed clashes or gunfire have been reported in the area.

However, in a statement, the SSPS recommended that the public avoid any movement in the vicinity of the blocked roads in order to reduce risks while security forces work to restore order.
Images spread on social media
Internet users shared photographs showing a tractor-trailer parked across the freeway at the southern exit of Escuinapa, very close to the municipality’s General Hospital.

The images have circulated quickly, generating concern in the community and highlighting the magnitude of the armed groups’ actions, which used heavy vehicles to impede traffic.

Operation by the three levels of government

Following the reports, a coordinated operation was deployed across the three levels of government with the goal of clearing the roads as quickly as possible.

State security forces, the National Guard, and municipal forces are participating in the efforts to remove the trucks and ensure the safety of drivers.

The priority, according to the SSPS, is to restore mobility on the roads and reinforce patrols at the entrances and exits of the municipality.

Recommendations for the public

The Secretariat reiterated its call to residents and those traveling through the region to stay informed through official channels and avoid traveling on blocked roads until further notice.

Travelers are also advised to reschedule their trips or use alternate routes while the situation in Escuinapa returns to normal.

Context of violence in Sinaloa

The state of Sinaloa has faced several episodes of violence in recent years related to the actions of organized crime groups, who resort to roadblocks as a form of intimidation and territorial control.

Although no direct confrontations were reported on this occasion, the disruption of communication routes poses a risk to the civilian population and highlights the security challenges in the state.

The roadblocks in Escuinapa highlight the vulnerability of southern Sinaloa’s roads to organized crime. Although no casualties or clashes have been reported, the action affected mobility and generated uncertainty among the population.

The authorities’ operation aims to restore traffic and send a message of institutional control, although the events demonstrate the need to strengthen the security strategy in the region.
