The violence caused by the dispute between the Los Chapitos and Los Mayos factions of the Sinaloa Cartel since September 9, 2024, has caused hundreds of people to be displaced from their homes in various municipalities across the state.

María Inés Pérez Corral, head of the Sinaloa Secretariat of Welfare and Social Development (SEBIDES), reported that the two municipalities that top the list of forced displacements are Concordia and Culiacán, the latter a center of the criminal organization’s operations and confrontations.

In recent months, a total of 328 displaced families have been counted in the municipality of Culiacán, where the communities of Tachinolpa, Guayabito, and Ayuné are depopulated due to the violence.

The official stated that the population of Ayuné would be ready to return if they received assistance with water supplies and road cleaning.

“In Ayuné, people want to return; we don’t have anyone there. They told me that if they were given water and the roads were cleaned, they would return,” she stated in an interview reported by Ríodoce.

During the visits conducted by Pérez Corral with members of the secretariat, it was determined that these three communities are the ones with displaced people, as Tachinolpa was completely uninhabited. Meanwhile, Guayabito was also identified due to its lack of inhabitants.

The head of the State Secretariat of Welfare and Social Development also mentioned that 328 families have received assistance due to displacement in the municipality of Culiacán in recent months.

The main municipality with the highest number of displacements is Concordia, where families from the communities of El Palmito, Potrerillos, La Petaca, Las Iguanas, Chirimoyos, Palmillas, Santa Lucía, El Batel, Santa Rita, Loberas, La Capilla del Taxte, and Las Guacamayas have received assistance.

Other areas where residents have been displaced include Rosario, Elota, Cosalá, San Ignacio, and Navolato, which are the main municipalities where clashes are occurring.

“We continue working, but we had 1,089 families who were displaced. Some left for their communities (…) By then, there were almost 1,800 families. Concordia is the largest displacement, followed by Culiacán,” he explained in an interview reported by Los Noticieristas.

However, last June, in a press conference, Pérez Corral reported that they had recorded 3,048 people permanently displaced in the state due to the violence.

Since that month, the aforementioned municipalities have been identified as the main areas where residents have abandoned their homes.
