Leader of La Unión Tepito cell arrested along with five women for drug trafficking and extortion in Mexico City

During searches in Mexico City (CDMX) and the State of Mexico (Edomex), security forces arrested two men and five women, including Iván “N,” El Chícharo, the alleged leader of a faction of the La Unión Tepito criminal group, dedicated to drug sales and distribution, extortion of merchants, and the murder of members of rival groups.

This was announced by the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), which detailed that the searches were carried out in buildings in the Cuauhtémoc municipality, Mexico City, and two more in the municipality of Nezahualcóyotl, Edomex.

In a statement released on September 22, 2025, the agency reported the arrest of seven people—two men aged 24 and 35, and five women aged 19, 35, 40, 61, and 63—and the seizure of drugs, live ammunition, and money.

Security Actions

According to official information, the searches were carried out after authorities identified properties where illegal activities were possibly taking place, such as the storage and packaging of apparent narcotics:

Two addresses on Manuel de la Peña y Peña Street, in the Centro neighborhood, Cuauhtémoc Municipality.
Two properties located on Bosques de Irán and Bosques de los Continentes streets, in the Bosques de Aragón neighborhood, Nezahualcóyotl.
SSC officers, in coordination with the Ministerial Police of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico, the Navy, the National Guard, and the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, carried out simultaneous raids on these properties.

There, they arrested five women and two men, including the alleged leader of the criminal group “which operates primarily in the downtown area of ​​Mexico City, dedicated to drug sales and distribution, extortion, and homicide.”

As a result, authorities sealed the properties, which were placed under police guard.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, who will determine their legal status and continue the investigation.
